The overall mortality in people with gastrointestinal symptoms seems similar to overall mortality in covid 19 infected patients.
The great news is that heartburn is typically not reported as a symptom in people presenting with covid 19.
Centers for Disease Control gives a list of symptoms associated with covid 19 and includes the following:
- Headache
- New loss of taste or smell

- Congestion or runny nose
- Nausea or vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Fever or chills
- Cough
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
- Fatigue
- Muscle or body aches
These are the symptoms if you need medical treatment
- Inability to wake or stay awake
- Bluish lips or face\
- Trouble breathing
- Persistent pain or pressure in the chest
- New confusion
As you see, heartburn is not consistent with the findings from the CDC, in the meta-analysis, or systematic reviews of the prevalence of gastrointestinal symptoms in patients with diagnosed covid 19.
Most of the searches included: diarrhea, vomiting, anorexia, and nausea loss of appetite. In the research, there was no search for “heartburn” included.
