Fleas are small bugs. They don’t grow larger than the tip of a pen, and they range from light brown to black.

Flea does not have wings, so they jump from place to place and move around.

Their flat and thin bodies and hard shells mean you usually need to remove them between fingernails or two hard surfaces to remove them. Even then, where there are many often follow.

What are the symptoms of a fleabite?

Avoid scratching if you can. Instead, monitor your bites for signs of an infection, including white-topped blisters or a rash.

What do flea bites look like?

Fleabites are pretty distinctive. They look like tiny, red bumps in clusters of 3 or 4 or a straight line. The bumps remain small, unlike mosquito bites.

You can see a red “halo” around the center of its bite. Fleabites are also around the waist, breasts, armpits, groin, or in the folds of the elbows and knees.

Complications

There are two complications from fleabites. These are allergic reactions and secondary infections.

If people are bitten and begin to show the symptoms, they should seek medical care immediately:

Difficulty in breathing
Nausea
Swelling of the lips or fac

In most cases, fleas carry diseases transmitted through bites, fever, plague, typhus, and cat scratch fever.

Spotting fleas in the home

If you have an animal in your house, you will know where you have the money.

Fleas may choose to stay on your pet dog or cat, but they can also live on you. If the population continues to grow, the fleas may break out and begin living in carpets, bedding or yards.

A bad flea infestation can be obvious. Try walking on the carpet wearing white socks. Look at your socks afterward. If you see little black bugs, those are likely fleas.

Can fleas bite people without any pets at home?

Yes, fleas bite pet-less humans, too. If you don’t have any pets, your fleabites could be coming from your garden or another person’s animal.

Fleas prefer tall green grass and shaded areas near woodpiles, decks, or storage buildings.

Consult a pest control expert if you find yourself battling small red bites after a day in your garden.

Fleabites vs. Bedbug bites

Bedbugs are also tiny critter that feeds on human blood. But, unlike bedbugs, fleas come out at night. So instead, they hide in beds and carpets and bite humans while they’re sleeping.

Unlike flea bites, commonly found around the ankles and feet, bedbugs bite the upper body. As a result, you’ll see tiny dark red spots on areas like your face, arms, neck, and hands. Like fleabites, these spots pop up in a cluster or line.

Bedbug bites go on their own within one or two weeks. If they bother you, try using steroid cream.

How to treat flea bites on humans?

Fleabites will go away without any treatment. However, you have to get rid of the fleas themselves to stop being bitten.

To reduce the symptoms of fleabites, try over-the-counter (OTC) anti-itch creams and antihistamines.

Treatments for fleabites can range from home remedies to medications. These include:

Cortisone
Tea tree oil
Vinegar
Calamine lotion
Antihistamine medications

Stop scratching the area. If you see signs of an infection at the bite site, like a white pocket or rash, make an appointment with your doctor.

Flea bites treatment in babies

Fleas in your home that bite you or your dog also bite your baby. Fleabites aren’t dangerous in young children, but they are uncomfortable.

Ask the pediatrician the safest way to treat the bites. Treatments include:

Washing the area of the flea bites with water and mild soap.
Give your baby an antihistamine cream to stop the itch.
Cutting your child’s nails to stop them from scratching the bites.
