What Is Orchitis?: Causes, Symptoms, Treatment, Diagnosis

What Is Orchitis?

Orchitis is an inflammation of the testicles. It is due to viruses or bacteria. Both testicles are affected by orchitis at the same time. However, its symptoms usually appear in only one testicle.

The Mumps virus often causes this type of inflammation. Mumps is a disease caused by the genus Rubella Virus.

Diagnosis for orchitis

Before we get started, you should also read the following guides to help you learn more: What Is Epispadias And Hypospadias?

Your doctor will do a physical examination of the prostate to see if the prostate is swollen.

Your doctor will ask for a urine example and can swab any discharge for lab testing. For example, it can determine if you have a sexually transmitted disease or an infection.

Ultrasound imaging can rule out testicular torsions. Testicular torsion is another condition that causes testicular and groin pain, and the symptoms sometimes confuse people with orchitis.

The testicular torsion is the curve of the sperm cell – the network of nerves and blood vessels that go into each testicle. If it opposes blood flow to your testicles, it affects your fertility. Therefore, you should seek medical treatment.
